From statement plaids and cozy sherpa to polished belted coats and modern puffers, these are the jackets I'm loving this fall.
I'll admit it. I have a jacket obsession.
I've always believed that a great jacket can completely make an outfit. Give me a simple tee, my favorite denim, and a fabulous jacket, and I'm happy!
It's one of my favorite ways to get dressed, especially in the fall. You don't need a complicated outfit or an entirely new wardrobe. Sometimes all it takes is one interesting layer to make everything you already own feel fresh again.
And this season, there are SO many great options!
From faux fur and classic houndstooth to modern bombers, textured corduroy, and beautifully belted silhouettes, I've rounded up my favorite styles in The Fall Jacket Edit.
1. The Statement Jacket: Let It Do the Talking
I love a jacket with personality. Something that makes even the simplest outfit feel special.
The Saylor Multi Alaska Cardigan is a perfect example. With its geometric Fair Isle-inspired print, soft stretch knit, and cozy fleece details, it has that retro, slightly sporty feel I love.
The ZARA Houndstooth Frog-Fastening Jacket is another standout. Classic houndstooth paired with unexpected closures gives it a sophisticated, vintage-inspired look.
And I couldn't resist the ASTR Brown Plaid Shae Jacket. The rich fall colors and classic pattern are exactly what I look for in a great statement piece.
HOW I'D STYLE THEM: Keep everything else simple. Straight-leg denim, a fitted tee or lightweight knit, and a great pair of boots or loafers. Let the jacket be the focal point.
2. The Plaid & Bomber Edit: Classic Meets Current
Plaid will always have a place in my fall wardrobe, but I especially love seeing classic patterns in more modern silhouettes.
The Z SUPPLY Tavi Plaid Bomber Jacket combines a timeless fall print with a sporty, relaxed shape.
It's a little unexpected and incredibly easy to wear.
I also love the slightly rounded silhouette of the Z SUPPLY Corin Bubble Hem Jacket. The shape alone makes your everyday denim feel more current.
HOW I'D STYLE THEM: Relaxed or wide-leg denim with a simple fitted top. Add a sneaker or loafer for that effortless weekend look.
3. The Belted Coat: Effortlessly Polished
There's something about a beautiful belted coat that instantly makes an outfit feel more sophisticated.
The Varley Felice Long Belted Coat is one of my favorites for that relaxed but refined look. I love the longer silhouette and the way the belt adds shape without feeling overly structured.
The Z SUPPLY Nola Belted Coat is another great option for everyday dressing.
Both are perfect examples of how a coat can take the simplest wardrobe basics and make them feel completely pulled together.
HOW I'D STYLE THEM: Wide-leg denim or tailored trousers, a beautiful cashmere sweater, and sleek boots. Simple, classic, and chic.
4. The Cozy Layers: Sherpa, Corduroy & Puffers
Fall dressing should feel as good as it looks!
I'm loving the Varley Brackley Cord Puffer Jacket in Cappuccino. The corduroy texture gives a traditional puffer a more elevated feel, and the warm neutral color works beautifully with fall denim and knits.
For something sportier, the FP Movement Aim High Fleece Pullover and On the Move Packable Puffer Vest are fabulous everyday layers.
These are the kinds of pieces you'll reach for on chilly mornings, casual weekends, and everything in between.
HOW I'D STYLE THEM: Relaxed denim, leggings, or joggers with a simple tee or fitted knit. Add a great sneaker and you're out the door.
5. The Faux Fur Moment
I couldn't put together a fall jacket edit without a little faux fur!
I love how faux fur adds texture, warmth, and just the right amount of glamour to an outfit.
A fabulous faux fur jacket can make jeans and a simple black top look instantly dressed up. And this season, I'm especially drawn to rich browns, chocolate tones, and soft neutral shades.
It's an easy way to make a statement without needing a complicated outfit.
HOW I'D STYLE IT: Dark denim, a fitted black knit, and sleek boots. Let the texture make the outfit.
The Dear Lucy Edit: It's All About the Jacket
After nearly 20 years of buying and styling fashion for my stores, I've learned that you don't need a closet full of statement pieces.
You just need a few really great ones.
And for me, jackets have always been one of the easiest ways to make an outfit feel special.
A beautiful plaid, an interesting silhouette, a fabulous faux fur, or a perfectly belted coat can completely change the way your favorite basics look.
My favorite formula? Great jacket + simple tee + fabulous denim + the right shoes.
It really can be that easy.
I've rounded up all my current favorites in The Fall Jacket Edit on Dear Lucy Edits.
