From relaxed fits to flares, barrel legs, and statement pockets, here's why MOTHER continues to be one of my favorite denim brands.
If you know me, you know I love great denim. And right now, MOTHER is at the very top of my list.
I've spent nearly 20 years buying, selling, and styling denim, and I can tell you that finding the perfect pair of jeans is never quite as simple as it sounds. Fit, fabric, wash, rise, and leg shape all make a difference.
What I love about MOTHER is the variety. Whether you're looking for a classic everyday jean or something a little more trend-forward, there's a silhouette worth trying.
And I have a little history with this brand!
A Little Retail Lesson: Sometimes When You're First, You're Last
Here's a fun fact: I first brought MOTHER Denim into my store back in 2010, when the brand was just getting started.
I loved the collection. Unfortunately, my customers weren't nearly as excited.
The jeans just didn't take off. Eventually, I ended up marking them down to $50 a pair to clear them out. Yes, $50!
Fast-forward to today, and MOTHER has become one of the most sought-after names in premium denim.
One of the biggest lessons I learned over the years in retail is that being ahead of a trend doesn't always translate into sales. Sometimes the product is right, but the timing isn't.
Sometimes when you're first, you're last.
And sixteen years later, here I am, still loving MOTHER Denim!
The SNACKS! Lemon Twist: My Personal Favorite
Let's start with the jeans I'm actually wearing as I write this.
The SNACKS! Lemon Twist in Fresh Squeezed has been one of my most-worn styles since summer. I keep reaching for them because they're just so comfortable.
I love denim that feels effortless, and these absolutely deliver. They're the kind of jeans you can throw on without overthinking your outfit.
Loose & Relaxed: The New Everyday Denim
Relaxed denim is having a moment, and I'm here for it.
After years of skinny jeans dominating our closets, there's something refreshing about a looser silhouette. It looks modern, feels comfortable, and can still be incredibly flattering.
One of my picks is the Hustler Roller Sneak in Heirloom. I love the long, wide-leg shape, especially paired with a fitted tee, tucked-in blouse, or beautiful cashmere sweater.
Patch Pockets: The Jeans That Get Compliments
If there's one pair I can personally recommend, it's the Hustler Roller Patch Pocket Sneak in Taking Chances.
I own these, and I get SO many compliments whenever I wear them.
There's something about the retro-inspired patch pockets that makes them stand out without feeling overdone. They're fun, flattering, and a little different from your typical denim.
Sometimes it's the smallest design detail that makes a pair of jeans special.
The Flare: A Silhouette That Never Really Goes Away
I've always loved a great flare.
Flared and wide-leg denim can create such a beautiful, elongated silhouette, particularly when paired with a little heel or a pointed-toe boot.
The key is proportion. Keep things a little more fitted or structured on top and let the denim make the statement.
It's one of those styles that feels both nostalgic and completely current.
Cropped Denim: Show Off Your Shoes
As someone who spent years in the shoe business, you know I have a soft spot for jeans that actually let you see your footwear!
That's why I love a great ankle-length jean.
The Hustler Ankle is an easy style to work into your wardrobe. Pair it with loafers, ballet flats, sneakers, or ankle boots.
It's a versatile length that works across seasons, especially when you're transitioning your wardrobe from warmer weather into fall.
Barrel-Leg Denim: The Trend Worth Trying
Barrel-leg jeans are one of the more interesting denim silhouettes we've seen in recent seasons.
They're relaxed through the leg, with a subtle curved shape that tapers toward the ankle.
I know this silhouette can feel intimidating at first, but the trick is keeping the rest of your outfit simple.
The Half Pipe Ankle is one of my MOTHER picks for trying this trend. A fitted tee, fine-gauge sweater, or cropped jacket is really all you need.
Don't Forget Black Denim
Every wardrobe needs a great pair of black jeans.
Black denim is one of those pieces that can instantly make an outfit feel a little more polished. I love it with a black blazer for a monochromatic look or paired with a beautiful fall knit.
Two styles that caught my eye are the Mid Rise Dazzler Skimp in Riding the Milky Way and The Jinx Sneak in Speed of Light.
They're great options when you want the versatility of denim with a slightly dressier feel.

My Final Thoughts
After nearly two decades in retail, I still get excited about finding a great pair of jeans.
And what I've learned is that the best denim isn't necessarily the trendiest pair in the store. It's the pair you feel amazing wearing and want to reach for again and again.
For me, that's been MOTHER.
From the jeans I couldn't sell back in 2010 to the styles I'm wearing and loving today, this brand has definitely come full circle.
I've rounded up all my current favorites in The MOTHER Edit on ShopMy.
